Soils and types of soils
1. Study of soils is called Pedology .
2. A mixed organic matter with minerals,gases liquid organisms which is with silica matter is called soil .
3. The other name for soil is Skin of the earth .
4. World soil day will observed on 5th December .
5. Generally soil will contain 45% minerals,5% organic matter,25% of water and 25% of air in it .
6. Basing on the physical properties and also chemical nature soils are divided into 6 types .
7. They are 1. Alluvial soil. 2. Black soil.
3. Red soil. 4. Laterite soil. 5. Mountain soil. 6. Desert soil
8. Alluvial soils are found near flood plain , coastal regions and river valleys .
9. Alluvial soil is the most productive soil for cultivation of rice , wheat , sugarcane, jute .
10. Black soil - These are formed by distraction of igneous rocks .
11. Black soil - Clayey nature,ideal for growing cotton .
12. Formed by distraction of metamorphic, crystalline rocks = Red soil .
13.Red soil - Iron oxide is more prevalent .
14. Red soil - Suitable for millets .
15. Laterite soil formed by the distraction of shallow minerals .
16. Laterite soil - Suitable for tea, coffee plantations .
17. Mountain soils - present in the slope of the mountains .
18. Mountain soil - Suitable for horticulture .
19. Desert soils - generally they are more porus, less fertile and more saline .
20.Desert soil - Not suitable for agriculture .
